UMA — Future Course Template System

Course Experience Prototype

Walk through what a complete learner experience could look like. These prototypes show how components and pages fit together into a full course flow — from orientation through graded activities.

About This Section

From Components to Course

The Component Library shows individual building blocks. The Sample Pages section shows assembled pages. This section shows how those pages connect into a complete learner journey — the sequence a student would follow through a week of coursework.

Two prototype directions are explored here. Each uses the same design system but explores a different structural approach to organizing course content.

Prototype 1 — Single-Page Week

A reduced-click design where all of a week's content lives on one guided page. The student enters Getting Started, then navigates to a single Learning Materials page for the full week.

Prototype 2 — Module Flow

The familiar UMA/D2L structure: Week → Module → Learn → Practice → Do. Each step is a separate page linked in sequence, matching existing D2L course architecture.

Stakeholder Goal

These prototypes help reviewers answer: “Would this feel significantly more modern, organized, and intuitive than the current course experience?”

Prototype 1 — Week 1

Single-Page Learning Experience

This prototype explores a reduced-click architecture. The student enters the course at Getting Started, then navigates to Week 1 → Learning Materials — a single page containing the complete week's experience. No separate Module, Learn, Practice, or Do pages.

Prototype 2 — Week 2

Week → Module → Learn → Practice → Do

This prototype demonstrates the familiar UMA/D2L course structure. Each step in the learner’s journey is a distinct page, matching the existing course architecture students already know. Built on real Cellular Biology content from a radiology program.

Future Expansion

Additional Weeks & Modules

The prototype currently covers Week 1 and Week 2 Module 1. Future iterations will extend the experience to show a full multi-week course structure.

Coming Soon

Week 2 — Module 2

Second module of Week 2. Will demonstrate a second Learn → Practice path within the same week structure.

Coming Soon

Week 3 — Full Flow

A complete week with two modules, showing how the Week Roadmap scales to more complex content weeks.

Coming Soon

AI-Integrated Week

A full week flow incorporating AI activity components: AI Practice, AI Reflection, and AI Discussion prompts throughout the Learn and Do phases.

Next Steps

Once stakeholders have evaluated both prototypes, the preferred direction will be selected for full pilot migration of one complete SS1000 week into D2L Brightspace.
