Course Design and Schedule

Learn how your course is organized and prepare for success throughout the term.

Understanding how your course is organized will help you stay on track and successfully complete all required learning activities throughout the term.

Online Course Structure

This course is divided into weeks, and within each week the content is divided into modules. The number of modules each week will vary.

Each module includes two sections:

  • Learn — Includes all reading materials and instructional content.
  • Practice — Includes ungraded practice activities.
Note

Although Practice activities are not graded, they are required. They count toward your out-of-class hours and help prepare you for graded activities.

Each week concludes with one final section:

  • Do — Contains all graded assignments and assessments.

Design and Student Expectations

This course is designed as a flipped course. Content that would normally be presented during lecture is available online.

You are expected to complete all Learn and Practice activities before attending class. Completing these activities prepares you for successful participation in classroom and laboratory experiences.

After completing your online and in-class activities, you will complete the Do section to demonstrate your learning.

Time Requirements

Each course requires students to complete a combination of in-class, laboratory, and independent out-of-class learning hours. The required number of hours varies by course and is listed in the course syllabus.

  • In-class hours are spent participating in virtual or face-to-face class sessions and collaborating with classmates.
  • Lab hours are spent practicing skills and demonstrating competencies.
  • Out-of-class hours are completed independently outside scheduled class and lab sessions. Estimated completion times are provided in the course outline located in the Getting Started section.
